Planning Flights to Italy

Organising Airfares
Once we knew the dates that we would be able to travel it was time to start planning our trip starting with organising the flights to Italy. I did some initial research to get a rough idea of what the potential cost was likely to be then popped in to our local travel agent and sounded her out just to be sure I wasn't missing anything. It turned out that the fares I had already uncovered were equal to if not better than anything she was able to offer me so I went back to dig around in earnest. By this stage I had several tabs open in my browser so I could go back and forward checking and comparing. Some things we considered when making our final decision included; what time of day we could leave, how long we were prepared to take to get there and how our money would be best spent.
We discovered that the earliest, most direct flight at the most reasonable price was departing Saturday morning. We were able to leave Friday evening. We also discovered that if we were prepared to break our trip with a long stopover in China we would save almost $5,000! $5,000! That's a huge amount. Even after getting visas so we can enter the country and the price of a hotel room on our return stopover (the stopover on the way home is overnight) we will still be saving heaps. And because it leaves Friday night we really aren't arriving much later than if we take the direct flight. So, that was settled. We will spend the day in Guangzhou, formerly known as Canton. A great site for researching flights to Italy is CheapoAir. I was also able to organise my travel insurance at the same time.
