We made our apologies to Pino and Marisa who had invited us to have dinner at their place tonight. When we told them the reason was that Lauren was sick they started to try to organise a doctor to see to her. Through Jeremy we explained that all she needed was rest, water and some paracetamol but they were unconvinced and insisted on dropping by with a thermometer. We had left the girls to rest while we stopped in at the bar up the road on the way to picking up a few items from the supermarket for dinner so Richard and Jeremy made a quick dash back so they would be there when they arrived.
The following morning we had a last coffee at our local bar, I think the surly barman actually cracked a smile today. I think we have become regulars! Pino arrives at 8:00 with a suitcase for us but which we don't need. For one thing there is simply no way an extra suitcase will fit in the car. We will have to make do with what we have. Jeremy has accumulated extra stuff during his stay which is understandable but getting it around Italy for the next few weeks and then home is going to be a challenge. He is limited to what he can take on his flight to Rome so it is decided that the girls and I will somehow manage with his extra bag on the train we will take from Catania to Salerno.
Jeremy flies to Rome today for a final end of program get-together with all the departing exchange students in Italy. The rest of us have one last night in Sicily. We decide that since we need to take Jeremy to Catania anyway and then leave ourselves early the following morning, it makes more sense to stay the night in Catania rather than return to Niscemi. We manage to get rooms at the Villa del Bosco again. Just up the road is a great little pizza joint where have probably the best pizza so far in Italy; thin, light and really good toppings.
You'd think we would know our way around Catania a little better by now but we still have to get from the hotel to the station where Richard will drop us off. He then goes on to the airport, drops off the car then flies to Rome to meet Jeremy before flying to Naples. From there they will get a train to Salerno. Catania manages to stick to her guns when it comes to being stubbornly difficult to navigate and we end up going around in circles at least twice before finding the road to the station.
