Vietri sul Mare has to be one of the most colourful towns I have stayed in. There are ceramics everywhere. It turns out that I am very familiar with products that originate from this town. There is a distinct pattern featuring a simplistic bird in blue on white that I have seen before back in Australia. The dinnerware in our apartment is this exact same pattern. Apart from the ubiquitous ceramics shops which line the main street of the old town, there are numerous ceramic artworks adorning the walls of the town. Produce stores, small supermarkets - alimentari; cheese and meat shops, fruiterers and bars all have lavish ceramics decorating their entrances. House numbers and public water fountains feature painted ceramics. The local car-park even has a row of large colourful fish shaped planters. These would not last long in Katoomba!
I have found a little supermarket where I stock up on various supplies. I think the shopkeeper is impressed my attempt to butcher his language and I leave his store with a small gift of Ferrero Rocher chocolates.
